John Howe (bishop)
John William Alexander Howe, DD (14 July 1920 – 26 April 2001) was an eminent Anglican priest: the 8th Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane.
Born in Goodmayes on 14 July 1920〔Who's Who 1996: London, A & C Black, 1995 ISBN 0-7136-4255-6〕 he was educated at Westcliff High School for Boys and Durham University. He was ordained in 1944,〔Crockford's clerical directory London, Church House 1975 ISBN 0-19-200008-X〕 he began his ecclesiastical career as a Curate at All Saints, Scarborough.〔(Church details )〕 He was Chaplain at Adisadel College Gold Coast and then Vice-Principal of Edinburgh Theological College.
